Traffic Advisory: 2016 Fresh Start 5K

On Friday, January 1, 2016, Mayor Bowser’s 2016 Fresh Start 5K race will take place in the District of Columbia.  The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia will put the following street closures affecting vehicular traffic into effect from 7:30 am to 10:00 am.  The street closures will be lifted when the event has concluded. The closures as a result of the event are as follows:

  • 7:30 -9:30 am: East Capitol Street between 17th Street, NE and 22nd Street, NE
  • 8:45-10:00 am: 19th Street between Independence Avenue, SE and East Capitol Street, NE
  • 8:45-10:00 am: 22nd Street between C Street, NE and Independence Avenue, SE

Access to DC Stadium Armory will be maintained by utilizing the Independence Avenue Service Road for DC National Guard Personnel.

All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.  Motorists could encounter possible delays if operating in the vicinity of this event and may wish to consider alternative routes.  The Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation also wishes to remind motorists in the vicinity of this event to proceed with caution as increased pedestrian traffic can be anticipated.
