(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Wednesday, September 12, at 9 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will host DC’s First Maternal and Infant Health Summit. Mayor Bowser is bringing together a vibrant list of speakers and leaders to address a community audience and develop an agenda that tackles the disproportionally high rates of maternal mortality experienced by people of color – in both Washington, DC and across the nation.

Leading the conversations for the day-long convening: Valerie Jarrett, Cathy Hughes, Mayors Karen Freeman-Wilson (Gary, IN), Catherine Pugh (Baltimore, MD), Lovely A. Warren (Rochester, NY), Karen Weaver (Flint, MI), among others.

The summit, which is free and open to the public, is an opportunity for elected officials, health experts, and DC residents to have a focused conversation regarding perinatal health and racial disparities in birth outcomes. The event will feature panel discussions and a luncheon to articulate and share the best infant and maternal health practices.
