Mayor Bowser Encourages Families to Attend the 2nd Annual Afterschool in the City Resource Fair
(Washington, DC) – As families begin the new school year, Mayor Muriel Bowser is encouraging families to attend the 2nd Annual Afterschool in the City resource fair on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, from 11 am to 2 pm at Deanwood Community Center.
“DC is brimming with amazing afterschool programs that keep our kids and teens safe, engaged, and excited about learning beyond the classroom,” said Mayor Bowser. “Whether your student wants to dive into academics, explore their love for gardening, or perfect their soccer or dance moves, we have something that will spark their passion and fit your family’s needs. Afterschool in the City is a great way to discover all the incredible opportunities waiting for your child.”
Afterschool in the City is an annual event hosted by the Deputy Mayor for Education's Learn24 network. This annual resource fair connects District families with afterschool and out-of-school time (OST) programs and opportunities that are designed for children and youth ages 5-21 across the District. Attendees will hear directly from government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community-based organizations, and can learn about the various afterschool programming and OST opportunities available to them.
Exhibitors will cover afterschool and OST programming in many fields, including but not limited to:
- College and Career Readiness
- Recreational Sports and Athletics
- Performing Arts (Dance, Theater, etc.)
- STEM
- Entrepreneurship
- Mentorship
Interested students and families can also explore available afterschool and OST programming on the Learn24 network website, through the Learn24 Program Finder.
