Mayor Bowser Announces the Office of Talent and Appointments
(Washington, DC)- Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser unveiled the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Appointments (MOTA) along with a new way for Washingtonians to join Boards and Commissions or seek senior-level appointed positions. The website, mota.dc.gov, will be the key entry point for District residents and other interested applicants to apply for appointment to leadership staff positions or boards and commission. The new office, directed by Steve Walker, will oversee a team tasked with recruiting energetic, forward-thinking individuals who are committed to helping the District of Columbia make a fresh start.
“The Mayor’s Office of Talent and Appointments will serve as a continuation of existing efforts to recruit the District’s best and brightest talent to join our Administration, which includes the important work of boards and commissions,” said Mayor Bowser. “I am confident that Steve and his team will use innovative approaches to recruit and build our leadership staff and boards and commissions.”
MOTA will use innovative and aggressive recruitment tactics, along with traditional approaches, to aggressively and proactively find and recommend the best talent for the Mayor’s appointments.
“We are excited about the creation of this new office, and look forward to helping our Mayor bring a fresh start to District government. Our mission is to give the Mayor the best and brightest for leadership roles,” said MOTA Director Steve Walker. “The Bowser Administration is committed to addressing the needs of District residents by hiring smart, hardworking, and forward-thinking leaders who have the skills and experience to take the District to the next level, and supplement the already existing talented individuals currently serving on boards and commissions.”
Walker, an adopted Washingtonian, served in the Talent and Acquisitions Department for Mayor-Elect Bowser’s Transition Team. Prior to that role, Walker served as Executive Director of iVote and the Deputy National Political Director at the Democratic National Committee (DNC). He is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University.
