In preparation for Sunday’s First Amendment activities, Mayor Muriel Bowser announces the District’s public safety plan, which includes the signing of a Mayor’s Order that allows the Bowser Administration to activate the District’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Prior to the announcement, Mayor Bowser hosted a roundtable discussion with community and faith leaders about the upcoming events.

Shabbat of Peace and Candlelight Vigil: Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself

We will conclude this service with a special candlelight vigil to honor and remember the lives lost in Charlottesville during the rallies and protests one year ago. Preregistration is requested.

Safe Haven

The New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, in partnership with Showing Up for Racial Justice, will be open as a safe haven for those in need. Volunteers trained in de-escalation of conflict and in providing basic mental and physical care will be on site.

As a prayerful response and call to action, the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church will host the United to Love: Rally for Love, Peace, and Justice in our nation's capital. We invite all individuals, faith communities and organizations across lines of difference to gather as we uplift the human spirit, renouncing all forms of hate and showing that we are #unitedtolove.

New Baptist Covenant, 19th St Baptist Church and 1st Baptist Church are coming together as covenant partners. For their first joint event they are responding to the “United the Right 2” white supremacist rally. At the King Memorial they will come together, share communion, sing, make statements opposing white supremacy and have a prayer walk.
