Mayor Bowser to Set Tone for 2020 by Hosting 6th Annual #FitDC Fresh Start 5K Run/Walk in Anacostia
(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, January 1, 2020, Mayor Muriel Bowser will kick off the New Year by hosting her 6th annual #FITDC Fresh Start 5K. This year’s race will take place in Anacostia Park and serves to encourage all District residents to lead healthy lives. The signature event is part of the “Find Your Fit” campaign, a citywide wellness initiative to help DC return to the number one spot as the “Fittest City in America,” as ranked annually by the American College of Sports Medicine.
“Each year, our #FitDC Fresh Start 5K brings together Washingtonians of all ages to celebrate the New Year in style – having fun while making healthy choices,” said Mayor Bowser. “Whether you’re running, walking, or cheering friends and family on, everyone can help put our city on the right path to becoming healthier and happier in 2020.”
Established by Mayor Bowser in 2015, the event last year drew over 2,000 participants on New Year’s Day 2019 in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.
The race is free and open to people of all ages. Each participant will receive a #FITDC Fresh Start T-shirt, runner’s bib, and other giveaways. The #FITDC Fresh Start 5K partners include Aetna, Vida Fitness, Pacers Running and various running groups from across the District. Residents can register here.
