Memorial Day 2018

Memorial Day is Monday, May 28. The DC government will be closed, and most city services will be suspended. From public pool openings to the Memorial Day Parade and Rolling Thunder, there are many events taking place in and around Washington, DC.

City Services

Sanitation services and most parking enforcement will be suspended until Tuesday, May 29. DPW will not enforce parking meters, residential parking, rush hour lane restrictions or tow abandoned vehicles Monday, May 28, except along the streetcar line. Learn more about city services.

Parks and Recreation

All outdoor pools and spray parks will open for the summer 2018 season on Saturday, May 26. Outdoor pools will be open from 11 am to 6 pm, and spray parks will be open daily from 10 am to 8 pm. Pools will be open on a weekend-only schedule through June 17.

DPR's administrative offices, indoor aquatic facilities, recreation and community centers will be closed Monday, May 28 for the Memorial Day holiday. All permitted events will take place as scheduled and all fields will be open.

Traffic and Road Closures

Motorists and pedestrians should be aware of various closures and events that may cause delays or detours.

  • The Rolling Thunder Ride for Freedom will take place on Sunday. Selected roads will be closed from around 11 am to 3 pm.
  • The National Memorial Day Parade will cause street closures Monday from 9 am to 5 pm on and around Constitution Avenue, NW.
