TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Walk and Parade

Following is a traffic advisory courtesy the Metropolitan Police Department.

(Washington, DC) On Monday, January 19, 2015, the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Walk and Parade will take place in the District of Columbia.  In conjunction with this event, there will be several street closures that motorists should take into consideration:

PEACE WALK

The Peace Walk will form at 2498 Martin Luther King Jr., Avenue, SE, and proceed to 620 Milwaukee Place, SE.  During the walk, there will be rolling street closures along the Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue corridor starting at 11 am.

PARADE ROUTE

The parade will form on the St. Elizabeth grounds, 620 Milwaukee Place, SE, and proceed southwest on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue., from the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, to the 4200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, where they will disband.

Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue will be closed between the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, to the 4200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, from approximately 12 pm to 3 pm.  Streets leading to Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, will be closed during this period.

All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.

Motorists could encounter possible delays if operating in the vicinity of this event and may wish to consider alternative routes.  The Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation also wishes to remind motorists in the vicinity of this event to proceed with caution as increased pedestrian traffic can be anticipated.
