(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Bowser announces the appointment of Edward Fisher as the Executive Director for the St. Elizabeths East Campus development project effective September 26, 2016. Fisher, a recognized community leader and government affairs professional, comes to this new role from the health care company CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield where he served as the Director of Community Affairs for the National Capital Area. Prior to this role, he served as the Chief of Staff for Councilmember Yvette M. Alexander (Ward 7) and in several leadership roles within the DC Council, including Committee Director of the Committee on Public Services and Consumer Affairs and Legislative Counsel for the Committee on Aging and Community Affairs.

“With Ed’s extensive experience in District government and familiarity with the community east of the River, he will bring an insightful and informed perspective to the development of the St. Elizabeths East Campus,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “We look forward to Ed’s contributions as this significant project moves forward.”   

The St. Elizabeths East Campus is a large development project in Ward 8 at the site of the now closed St. Elizabeths Hospital. The first phase of the project included the R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center, the former hospital chapel, and the adjacent G8WAYDC, an urban park and marketplace pavilion that hosts events and other programming for residents.

The St. Elizabeths site will also be the home for the new Entertainment and Sports Arena, the future home of the Washington Mystics and training facility for the Washington Wizards. Phase One of the development will also include affordable family-sized apartments, home ownership town homes and an office building with ground floor retail. Fisher will work closely with Mayor Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development who heads and staffs the St. Elizabeths East Campus development project.

Fisher is active in the community as the Chair-Elect of the D.C. Promise Neighborhood Initiative; Board Member of the Lee Montessori Public Charter School; and active mentor and tutor with the Lifting As We Climb Foundation. He also co-founded Man Up! Leadership Bootcamp. He obtained his Bachelor’s in Business Management from Hampton University and his Juris Doctorate from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. He lives in Ward 7.
