DC Students Must Register DC One Cards to Board Metrobuses and DC Circulator Buses for Free

Monday, April 28, 2014

Washington, DC The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) would like to remind District students to register their DC One Card as soon as possible, if they have not already done so. This step is required to enable WMATA to upload their “Kids Ride Free on Bus” electronic pass onto their DC One Card. If students fail to register their DC One Card, then they will be charged the regular fare to board the bus.

After students register their DC One Card, they can activate their free bus pass by tapping the Smartrip farebox target on Metrobuses or DC Circulator buses after three weekdays.

By April 30, WMATA will require all students to tap their individual DC One Card on the farebox target to board Metrobuses or DC Circulator buses for free during weekdays only (from 5:30 am to 9 am and from 2 pm to 8 pm).

For more information, please contact the School Transit Subsidy Office at (202) 673-1740 or visit the program’s website.
