DMV’S 65 K Street Facility Closes for Week; Limited Services Relocated

(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles announced it is forced to close its facility at 65 K Street, NE due to major HVAC system failures and unhealthy interior conditions. The facility normally houses DMV’s ticket payment and adjudication functions, as well as its call center, permit control, driver record and insurance services. The Department had previously announced the relocation of its driver record and insurance functions to 301 C Street, NW. During the week of August 8–14, other services will be limited to ticket issues related to the release of booted or towed vehicle, the reinstatement of driver’s licenses, and those services normally offered via internet and mail. Detailed service descriptions and impacts follow:

Ticket Payments
No ticket which comes due during this period will default, double, or receive penalties, as no walk-in ticket payment services will be available. Tickets may be paid by credit card online or by phone (202-289-2230). Payment by checks and money orders may be sent to the address listed on the back of the ticket.

Payments to Release Booted Vehicles
Tickets and fees which must be paid prior to a boot being released from a vehicle may be done online, by phone (202-289-2230), or at 301 C Street, NW - Room 1157, between 8:15 am and 4 pm Mondays through Fridays.

Payments to Release Towed Vehicles
Tickets and fees which must be paid prior to a vehicle being released from the Blue Plains impound lot may be paid at the Blue Plains facility, between 10 am and 7 pm Mondays through Fridays.

Ticket Hearings
All ticket-related hearings which had been scheduled (officer’s presence requested) for this week are cancelled, and the tickets will be dismissed. A decision letter will be issued by mail. There will be no walk-in ticket hearing services available. All tickets may be adjudicated by mail, by writing to the address on the back of the ticket.
