District Government Closed for Christmas Holiday

The District of Columbia govenment will be closed Thursday, December 25 and Friday, December 26 for the Christmas holiday.

City Services

Trash/recycling collections: For the weeks of Christmas and New Year's, Thursday trash collection will slide to Friday, and Friday collections will slide to Saturday.

Parking Enforcement: DPW will enforce parking regulations Monday through Wednesday, December 22-24 and Monday through Wednesday, December 29-31. DPW will not enforce parking meters, residential parking and rush hour lane restrictions Thursday and Friday, December 25-26, and Thursday, January 1. Normal enforcement will resume at 6 am Saturday, December 27 and 6 am Friday, January 2.  DPW will not tow abandoned vehicles on the holidays.

Live Holiday Tree Collections:  Place live holiday trees, wreaths and other greenery next to the trash container at the resident’s regular collection point.  Trees collected between December 28-January 10 will be recycled.  After January 10, trees will be collected with the trash as space allows in the trash trucks. Unwanted artificial trees and greenery should be put in the trash.

Parks and Recreation

All DPR Recreation and Community centers will operate on an adjusted holiday schedule on December 22, 23, 29, 30 and January 2.

All DPR Aquatic centers will maintain normal hours of operation on December 22, 23, 29 and 30.  All aquatic centers will open at 9 am on Friday, January 2.
