Mayor Fenty, City Administrator Dan Tangherlini and members of the DC Council unveiled the Mayor’s Fiscal Year 2009 budget proposal, entitled “Getting the Job Done.” The plan continues to provide key services to District residents while limiting spending growth on government services to less than 1 percent over the last fiscal year. District's Attorneys Defend Gun Ban in Supreme Court
Mayor Fenty and the District’s legal team briefed reporters after oral arguments before the United States Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller, a case challenging the District’s gun-control law. The justices are expected to issue a decision this summer. Transcripts and video from the oral arguments are available at dc.gov.

$20 Million for Ward 8 Affordable Housing
Mayor Fenty announced a US Department of Housing and Urban Development grant for $20 million. The HOPE VI grant will build 336 units of mixed-income housing at the site of the former Sheridan Terrace housing complex in Ward 8. Read more.

Washington, Let's Play Ball!
Mayor Fenty threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the March 29 exhibition game between the Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles. The Nats won their first outing at the new Nationals Park 3-0. The next night, at their home opener, the team defeated the Atlanta Braves 3-2. Read more.

Mayor Welcomes New Shopping Center to Columbia Heights
Mayor Fenty was the first customer at the District’s first Target store. The store is part of a new retail development called DC USA on formerly vacant land in Columbia Heights. The District Government owns the parking garage at the mall, which will add about 700 jobs to the District's economy. Read more.

Up to $10,000 for College -- Apply Today!
You can apply for the District Government’s four higher-education grants, and receive up to $10,000 for college, on a single application. The deadline for the 2008 OneApp is June 30. Read more.

Mayor's Job Fair Draws Thousands
Mayor Fenty joined more than 21,000 job-seekers and more than 150 employers at the Mayor’s Citywide Job Fair at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The District and federal governments took part, as did numerous private employers. Read more.

Residential Street Sweeping Resumes
The Department of Public Works resumed residential street sweeping March 24, so please remember to move your car on the appropriate day. Ticketing began March 31. Street sweepers cover about 4,000 lane-miles every month in the District. Read more.
