	Renewing, Revitalizing and Reorganizing the Schools Mayor Fenty and schools leaders have announced a proposal to overhaul poorly performing public schools by delivering new programs to boost academic achievement across the school system. The introduction of new programs will align with DCPS’s efforts to right-size the school system. Read more.

	A Computer in Every Classroom Mayor Fenty announces plans to put a working desktop computer in every DC Public Schools classroom by February. The $4 million initiative includes a price of $628 per computer and will also consist of infrastructure improvements such as network cables, power strips and access points. Read more.

	Mayor Announces Plans for Public Safety Facilities Mayor Fenty has unveiled plans for several new public safety facilities in the District. The Metropolitan Police Department's First District headquarters will get a new home, making room for the District's first ever consolidated forensic laboratory. Read more.

	HIV/AIDS: Stopping a Modern Epidemic Mayor Fenty and HIV/AIDS Administration Director Dr. Shannon Hader have announced the District’s plan to combat the spread of HIV. Highlights include increasing access to testing and eliminating mother-to-child transmission so no children will be born with HIV in the District. World AIDS Day is December 1. Read more.

	Supreme Court to Hear District Gun Control Case The Supreme Court of the United States has agreed to hear District of Columbia v. Heller, a case that will test whether the District’s decades-old ban on handguns is constitutional. The District’s attorneys will argue the case in March. Read more.

	Mayor Kicks Off Fall Leaf Collection Season Mayor Fenty and DC Department of Public Works Director William Howland kicked off fall leaf collection season with a demonstration in Ward Seven. Residents are urged to rake their leaves into curbside tree boxes before their designated leaf collection dates. Read more.

	French President Visits with the Mayor Mayor Fenty presented the key to the city and a jersey to Nicolas Sarkozy, president of France and a fellow running enthusiast. The French leader’s visit to the District also included a White House dinner. Read more.
