Take Two Hours to March for Voting Rights
Put on your walking shoes for democracy. On April 16 at 2:30 p.m., Mayor Fenty will lead a march from Freedom Plaza to the Capitol. District residents will celebrate DC Emancipation Day by demanding our congressional voting representation. Read more.

Mayor Submits FY 2008 Budget
Mayor Fenty has sent the DC Council his $9.2-billion spending plan for the next fiscal year. The proposal includes major investments for education, safety and human services. It does not increase taxes. Read more.

State of the District Address
Mayor Fenty delivered his first State of the District Address March 21 at Congress Heights Senior Wellness Center in Ward Eight. In the speech, he reflected on his first 78 days in office and outlined his goals for public safety, education and government operations. You can watch the address online. Read more.

Spring Means Street Sweeping
Street sweeping season has returned. Mechanical sweeping in the District's busiest areas began March 26, along with alternate-side parking regulations. The DC Department of Public Works will begin ticketing and towing during sweeping hours April 2. The fine is $30. Read more.
Last year, street sweeping removed more than 3,000 tons of garbage from District roads!

Summer Youth Registration Open
Sign up today! The 2007 Summer Youth Program will offer temporary jobs to 11,000 young people in the District. Every year, the program helps students prepare for the working world while improving in school. The deadline for registration is April 27. Read more.

Tax Help Available Late
The District's tax office has extended hours in April to help you file your return. The walk-in service center will be open April 2 through April 17, Monday through Friday, from 8:15 a.m. to 8 p.m. Customer service specialists will be available to prepare District individual income tax returns for free.
