Fenty Administration Opens New Athletic Fields at Fort Reno Park

(Washington, DC) - Today, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and Ximena Hartsock, acting director of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), joined Ward 3 residents to open new athletic fields at Fort Reno Park in Northwest.

DPR recently completed much needed improvements to Fort Reno's athletic fields located at 41st and Chesapeake Streets, NW.  DPR constructed a competition-quality natural turf baseball 90-foot diamond, a full-size soccer field, and a small practice soccer field, which can accommodate two U-6 soccer fields.

"The new athletic fields we opened today at Fort Reno are a product of collaboration between the community, the National Park Service, and the District government," said Mayor Fenty.  "Not only we were able to make major capital improvements, which will help meet the recreational needs of our residents, we've also been able to protect the historic resources on this great site."

In addition to the major field improvements, project work also included installation of baseline fencing along Chesapeake Street, NW, improved field amenities including seating and backstop, and new landscaping.

"DPR is committed to investing and maintaining the best in athletic and recreational facilities for our residents," said DPR Acting Director Ximena Hartsock. "The new athletic fields at Fort Reno show the results of DPR fulfilling that commitment."
