September 30, 2009Fenty Administration Breaks Ground on New Rosedale Community Center Washington, DCToday, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Acting Director Ximena Hartsock and Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) Valerie Santos joined Ward 6 residents to mark the beginning of construction for a new Rosedale Community Center at 1701 Gales Street, NE.
"With the strong support of the community, I'm very happy today to mark the beginning of construction of a new Rosedale Community Center," said Mayor Fenty. "Working together, this administration will be back to open the doors of a new Rosedale with the same community and neighbors gathered here today."
Working with the local community, DPR developed a plan for a new center and outdoor amenities which will address community recreational needs, as well as expand programs and services available to residents. The new community center will be designed and constructed as a Green building to meet LEED Silver certification.
Features of the new center include: Fitness room Game room Gymnasium Kitchen Locker rooms Multipurpose room Resource room with public-use computers Senior room Spray park Staff offices Storage Library
I know that many residents have been waiting and working hard for the day that construction would begin for a new Rosedale Community Center," said DPR Acting Director Hartsock. "We look forward to working together with the community to ensure Rosedale is completed in a timely fashion.
