Mayor Fenty and DPR Distribute Donated Athletic Apparel to Youth Athletes

WASHINGTON, DC - Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) distributed donated sporting apparel to thousands of DPR youth athletes today at the Bald Eagle Recreation Center, 100 Joliet Street, S.W.

More than 15,000 pieces of athletic apparel was given to District youth who participate in DPR athletic programs.  All of DPR's youth sports programs including baseball, basketball, boxing, cheer and dance, football, soccer, tennis, and track and field were invited to participate. The purpose of this DPR giveaway is to encourage District youth to participate in athletic programs and to learn the fundamentals and positive benefits of being part of a team and an organized sport, as well as provide needed apparel for those youth in need.

"Providing District youth with the equipment to lead healthy, active lives and become involved in physical activities is very important," said Mayor Adrian M. Fenty.

Ximena Hartsock, DPR Acting Director said "DPR is proud to receive donations from organizations that show an interest in the physical well being of children, youth and families." She followed with, "District children and youth will have even more reason to get involved in teams sports and programs."
