Mayor Adrian M. Fenty Disappointed by Gun Ban Rehearing Denial

(Washington, DC) Today, the United States Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit denied the District’s petition for rehearing en banc in Parker v. District of Columbia over the dissent of four judges.  Mayor Adrian M. Fenty issued the following statement in response to the petition denial:

“I am disappointed by the DC Circuit’s decision today denying the District of Columbia’s petition for a rehearing of Parker v. District of Columbia.  The District’s gun control laws have been a critical part of the City’s public safety strategy for more than 30 years.  I remain deeply committed to combating gun violence and vigorously defending the laws of the District of Columbia.  We will evaluate our options over the next few weeks and will soon make a decision on how we will proceed.”
