February 5, 2007Mayor Fenty Announces Appointments to WASA Board Mayor Adrian M. Fenty announced his nominees to the DC Water and Sewer Authority (WASA) today.
The following individuals were named:
Robin B. Martin – WASA, Chair, Board of Directors
Howard C. Gibbs – WASA, Member, Boards of Directors
Robert H. Nixon – WASA, Member, Board of Directors
F. Alexis H. Roberson – WASA, Member, Board of Directors
Keith M. Stone – WASA, Member, Board of Directors
Dan Tangherlini – WASA, Member, Board of Directors

Robin Martin has been nominated to be the Chair of the WASA Board of Directors by Mayor Fenty. Mr. Martin is an effective member of several private, public, and charitable boards, has been the president and CEO of the Deer River Group for more than 25 years. Martin, 57, serves as vice chairman of the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History and chairman emeritus of the Corcoran Gallery of Art. He also served as a director of LML Payment Systems, Inc., Vancouver, BC, and Dallas, and as a 20-year trustee of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Martin also has been a member of the Federal City Council and of the Commission of the Smithsonian's Museum of African Art.
From 1995 to 2002, Martin served as a member of the board of trustees at St. Albans School in Washington. In this capacity, he had a leadership role as a member of the search committee for the new headmaster. He has extensive experience in fundraising for nonprofits and attracting philanthropic and corporate support for a wide array of cultural and educational purposes. In 2003, Mayor Williams appointed Martin to fill a vacancy on the District of Columbia Board of Education on which he served until December 2006.
Martin is a frequent speaker on media acquisitions, mergers, and financing in the broadcast and cable industry.
